Compliance Requirements for NASA Grantees

NASA has certain baseline civil rights requirements for recipients of our grant awards and other forms of Federal financial assistance. Among the most important of these requirements is an assurance by the grantee institution, prior to award, that it is in compliance with all Federal civil rights laws. The Assurances provision in our regulations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is an example of this requirement. A signed Assurance of Compliance form (also known as NASA Form 1206) is required of all NASA grantees. The form provides valuable information on specific requirements under the four civil rights laws NASA administers (see below).

Title VI of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964

Title VI of the Act is intended to prohibit discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance (FFA).

Title IX of the Education
Amendments Act of 1972

Under Title IX, educational programs receiving Federal financial assistance are prohibited from discriminating on the basis of sex and must ensure equal educational opportunities for all program beneficiaries.

Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973

Section 504 of the Act prohibits discrimination based on disability in programs receiving Federal financial assistance (FFA).

Age Discrimination
Act of 1975

The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 (Age Act) prohibits discrimination based on age in programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance (FFA).
